The FSL 11+ Course 2024-2025

For those taking the exam in September 2025, please see the course details below.

Year 4 Assessment

  • An at-home paper (sent via email) is to be completed and returned to Kate for marking and initial feedback. This paper is designed to assess what has (and hasn’t) been covered at school to date. Students usually complete this in the late autumn of Year 4, or in the early New Year.

  • A group session in the spring of Year 4, where students do a timed piece of work under Kate’s observation. A feedback report from this session is also provided, before parents decide if they wish to commit to a course space.

Please note - there is absolutely no obligation to continue with the course after the assessment process is complete.

Cost: £99 (payable upon Assessment Registration - this reserves your space on the course until both assessments have been completed)

FSL 11+ Course

Part 1 - Teaching Phase

  • Optional work (books + emailed worksheets) in the summer of Year 4 through to Christmas of Year 5, to get the ball rolling

  • Small group lessons during term time (6 -10 students* per group) from January - September 2025. If the students start lessons any sooner than this, they are likely to get sick of the work and 'burn out’. From my experience, it’s best to begin after they’ve had a rest over the Christmas holidays, and are fresh and ready to start in the New Year.

*Group sizes can vary slightly as I like to ensure the children work well together and the flexibility in the number allows me to do this. I also employ an administrative assistant (who helps with marking etc.), allowing me to focus solely on the children.

  • Weekly emailed feedback report, detailing your child’s progress (see a mid-course example here)

  • 1 x Mid Term Mock, to reassess the children’s progress half way through the course

  • Optional homework in the February, Easter and May school holidays

  • Access to the FSL Foundation (Year 4/5) and Higher Level (Year 5/6) Vocabulary courses on the app Memrise (from June 2024)

  • Access to Kate’s tutorial video bank, explaining methods for tricky question types

  • Practice Mock Session in the spring of Year 5, designed to help the children to adjust to longer papers

Part 2 - Revision and Test Practice Phase

  • 3 x Mock Exam Sessions + Feedback Score Reports scheduled throughout the summer break (one every fortnight). These are held at Ashley Green Memorial Hall for authentic test experience, using exclusive test papers

  • The FSL Summer Pack - six weeks’ worth of exclusive, timetabled work scheduled for the end of the summer term, the summer holiday, and the week prior to 11+ exam

  • 3 x Drop-In Sessions scheduled around the Mock Exam sessions, to help with exam preparation and test corrections (maximum 10 students per session)

  • Review Session scheduled in the week before the exam, aimed at revisiting exam technique, discussing how best to deal with nerves and revising tricky topics

Please note that all materials (books, papers, book bag etc.) for the course are included, there are no hidden extras!

When and where are the lessons?

Students attend ONE session a week.

  • The weekly group sessions will be held in Berkhamsted on Mondays, Wednesdays or Thursdays (either 4.00-5.15pm or 5.30 - 6.45pm). Those attending the first session of the day are welcome straight from school (from 3.30pm) if this helps with logistics!

  • Lessons in Gerrards Cross will be held on Tuesdays (4.30-5.45pm)

  • For an EXAMPLE calendar of course dates (dates for 2025 will be confirmed at the start of Year 5), please click here
