Course Timeline

Year 4

September – December

As a parent, the earliest time you really need to start thinking about the 11+ is at the beginning of Year 4, but even then the preparation should (in most cases) not be a demanding course. At the very least you should open up a dialogue with your child in year 4 about the Eleven-plus; explain to them what the test is and make sure they understand the concept of going on to Grammar school. Parents know better than anyone how to incentivise their children, but the more focused and motivated they are this stage in their education, the better.

At this point, we recommend reading through the FSL course details and signing your child up for Kate’s Assessment. Get the course details here. Once you are signed up, you’ll receive all the Assessment Information you need.

The first part of the Assessment is an individual paper to be completed at home, without time conditions. You’ll send this back to Kate for marking, and she’ll give you some feedback on your child’s core English and Maths skills.

May

The group assessment takes place in early May and your child will meet Kate, along with other students. This session tests the children under timed conditions, and introduces them to Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning too. You’ll receive a feedback report from this session too, and at this stage will confirm whether or not you would like a space on Kate’s course.

Year 5

Summer Holidays – December (Optional Work)
The work comprises of books and worksheets, along with access to our vocabulary course on the app Memrise, as children begin Year 5.

January – July (Teaching Phase)
Face to face lessons begin with Kate in January. We think it’s best your child begins fresh in the New Year, once they are fully settled into Year 5. Your child wants to sit the exam at their peak; not when they have fallen off the wagon after starting too soon!

July – August (Revision Phase)
During this time, children will complete the FSL Summer Pack (timetabled work) as well as have the option to attend 4 drop in sessions and 3 Mock Exams.

Year 6

September
Exam time. Children will have a review session with Kate in the last week of August/beginning of September before they take the test.
