What You Need To Know For The Eleven Plus Exam In Warwickshire
The eleven plus is an examination that is given to pupils who are in their final year of primary school and is used to evaluate whether a pupil is ready or suited to joining a local grammar school. Since this test is very important when it comes to assessing whether your child will attend grammar school, it is equally important to ensure that your child is well prepared. Grammar Schools In Warwickshire
There are 5 grammar schools in Warwickshire, each accessed by the eleven plus exam. There is one bilateral school, Ashlawn School in Rugby. Ashlawn school has available 90 selective places and 190 non-selective places available.
The county is split into two regions for admissions purposes, East and South.
The East region is again split into two regions. Region 1 is contained within a 10-mile radius from the Water Tower just outside of Rugby. This stretches to the outskirts of Coventry, Royal Leamington Spa, Daventry, and Market Harborough.
Region 2 is a smaller area within Region 1 that covers the surrounding Rugby areas.

Applying To Take The Eleven Plus Exam In Warwickshire
Applications for the eleven plus exam in Warwickshire are completed through the Warwickshire eleven plus admissions website.
Keep up to date on the eleven plus test registration date to find out when you should apply. The 2016 registration deadline for 2017 intake was Friday 8th July 2016. It is generally around this time of year every year.

Once registered for the eleven plus exam, Warickshire Admissions will send out information with regard to test centres to your home. This is sent from mid-late August.
Within the information pack is also a ‘Fit & Well’ form for your child taking the exam. This needs to be brought to the exam completed, along with a photograph of your child. The photograph needs to be signed and dated by the Headteacher of your child’s current school. Don’t forget this, if you do not bring this to the exam your child will not be able to sit and will have to retake later in the year.
What Kind Of Eleven Plus Exams Will My Child Take?

The eleven plus exam in Warwickshire is tested using the Durham CEM standards. There are four areas tested within this which include:
- Verbal reasoning – Involves the candidate thinking about text and words, solving sequences and other problems. Candidates must have a broad vocabulary and a good understanding of English grammar to pass this.
- Non-verbal reasoning – Involves the candidate thinking about diagrams and pictures as well as solving the problems related to these items. The exam also demands some mathematical reasoning, but it does not place too much emphasis on written language.
- Mathematics and English – While not used by many local authorities as compared to verbal and non-verbal exams, expect their requirements to be quite high if used.
